The group has been involved in been involved in actions to protect our beaches since the early 1990’s.

Our latest concern is the Department For Environment’s proposal to construct a pipeline to pump sand from the northern metropolitan beaches to West Beach.

We think this is a very BAD idea because:

• It is environmentally harmful to beaches where the sand is mined
• Sand dunes essential to protection against global sea level rise are eroded
• Mining means the presence of earthmoving machinery on the beaches for extended periods of time – months, thus conflicting with the rights of local residents to enjoy the area.
